Just 5 more minutes…

I love this season of life spending time with my grandkids. Last week, my wife and I took them to eat and watch them in the play area. They love this area and when it’s time to leave, they will always say, “can we play for five more minutes?” … and we smile and put on the timer! I can hear my grandson saying, only 5 more minutes, papa! But what is five minutes?

I recently read a story from Jesse Itzler that made me pause. When I read something that makes me pause – it inspires me to take “five minutes” to write it down and look for ways to share it with others. In his story, he shared how a friend was telling him about his son scoring 9 goals in a soccer game. Jesse was impressed and asked how his son was so good at soccer – and his friend revealed that he stays “five minutes” after each practice to work on his game. Sounds like a little extra practice does the trick – but is it just a little extra?

Did you know? 5 minutes in a day is…

  • 25 minutes a work week,

  • 1.6 hours a month,

  • Almost 20 hours a year!

Think about it… that is 20 “extra” one hour practices a year – that is a lot of practice. What would you do with 20 extra hours a year to elevate something in your life?

What if you decided to invest 5 minutes a day into…

  • Reading an article or few pages of a book or devotional,

  • Writing down reflections and gratitude in a journal,

  • Planning your next sales calls or work day action items,

  • Taking time to think,

  • Writing or sending a personal note to let someone know you appreciate them or the work they are doing. Wow – how many notes can you send in 20 hours?!

In my book, Drive With Purpose, I share many stories about people that are creating significance in their career and life including the story below about the “Carry The Load” organization.

U.S. Navy SEAL veterans, Clint Bruce and Stephen Holley, founders of Carry the Load. Originally started as a mission to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day, Bruce and Holley have since expanded their organization to honor more than just our military heroes and more than just the one holiday. Carry The Load works to bring all Americans together to participate in honoring our nation’s heroes every day. Since 2011, the organization has raised almost $40 million to elevate awareness, continuum of care, and education for our national heroes and their families. To learn more about Carry the Load, visit carrytheload.org.

Significance offers a consistent direction amidst the ever-changing landscape of success. (Excerpt from Drive With Purpose)

Over the next few weeks, I’m investing “5 minutes” to honor them and my grandfather that died while serving in WWII by sharing their story. I am also asking for you to help me by making a small or large donation – they are both significant. Donate here - it only takes 5 minutes (or less)!

Can you help me? I am trying to get to $2500 and would appreciate your support.

Thank YOU for taking 5 minutes to read “Move to Inspire” – it’s inspiring!

Call to Action – Decide where you want to grow and start taking 5 minutes to work on you – I cant wait to hear about your game at the end of the year – 20 hours later!
