YOU are surrounded by greatness… It’s your MOVE! Leadership strategies: PLANNING and GOALS

Here we are once again as we head down the stretch trying to finish strong in the 4th quarter. How are you performing? It’s a great time to review your team goals and/or your personal goals. Each year I write down several things I want to achieve each year in business and in my personal life. For example, I wrote down that I wanted to achieve the new SHRM-CP certification, as well as start a new leadership journal in 2015. During the summer, I review progress all of my goals, then identify 3 of my biggest goals that I want to focus for maximum impact. In September/October, I will then review progress to make sure I am doing everything I can to keep these goals out front for the best chance of success. Hooray, I checked off the SHRM-CP certification and leadership journal! What have you already achieved in 2015?why

WHY should you do this? It’s so much more than achieving a goal! Zig Ziglar once said “What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” This is the WHY! It’s about the journey, life experiences, and the people you meet along the way.

If you want to elevate your leadership, consider adding these strategies to your disciplines:

  1. PLANNING – We are all so busy with our work and families that it doesn’t seem like we have time to plan. However, if you invest some time this week to plan some goals based on what matters most to you, then you will be amazed how much time this will create to help you accomplish your goals and focus your time on what matters most.
  2. MENTOR – If you don’t have one, find one today! It’s your move to reach out to someone that has enjoyed success. Invite someone that inspires you to meet you for coffee, or buy them lunch. Ask lots of questions such as what should I start doing, keep doing, and maybe stop doing. What do you read that I should read, and who should I meet. Mentors can look at your opportunities from a difference lenses and encourage action to boost confidence and results.
  3. GOALS – What are your goals for 2015? What are the top 2-4 things you want to achieve this year? Write these down, post on wall; send an email to someone to help you with accountability, or anything you can think of to help you stay focused on achieving results. I once heard Tony Jeary say that “ACTION leads to confidence while INACTION leads to fear and doubt.” Go write down your 4th quarter goals, and take action today. It’s your move!

Call to action: Invest 30-45 minutes today to plan what matters most for success. Send to someone you know and ask for their ideas on ways to achieve results.
