Over the past 4 weeks I’ve been using the C25K app to develop a running routine. The program starts out easy walk / easy jog in small time increments to help the runner get started and increases time/distance each week. The goal is to be able to run 3.1 miles (5K) and beyond without stopping on a regular basis. Today I started week 4… the runs are much longer and the rest times were shorter… but today, I felt like I was running up hill into the wind with concrete shoes… Now don’t get me wrong, I have run several 5K’s in the past as well as competed in a 10-mile tough mudder… but today was hard. In fact, the last 5-6 weeks have been hard with all that is going on in our world. It often feels like I am trying to do life by myself.
So, what kept me going? In the C25K app, there is a virtual coach that tells you when to stop and start which is so helpful to help me stay on track and get past the finish line today. I felt like I had a friend pushing me to keep going and be better today. I also have accountability partners motivating me stay on track! As I think about the times that I felt like giving up, I can point back to one thing to help me keep going – people around me!
I remember the challenges of going back to college with 2 small children while working a full time job…
I remember many times struggling in my job earlier in my career…
I remember struggling at networking events trying to meet people…
When I was running, I thought back to something Jesse Itzler said in his book “Living With A Seal“. When he was getting tired during his run, he would say “remember tomorrow”. It would remind him of the story that he would tell himself the next day – did he quit, or did he finish?
So what story are you going to tell yourself tomorrow?
You see, life is all about people! It’s always been about people, and will always be about people. When we try to do life by our self, we feel the struggle even more. But when we lean on others, we feel a sense of togetherness and inspiration to get through the tough times because we have someone to talk to along the way. This is the lane of fulfillment in life. It’s all about the people!
So today, I am going to focus on the story of gratitude… the people in my life to get me through another week of COVID-19 world. My network, my customers, my co-workers, business partners, and friends for helping me get through these days and to keep going.
Some days are bigger than others, and some days are harder than others too. But doing life together will not only help us get through this, but also create a story of more opportunities of togetherness! So, keep going… The best is yet to come!
