10 Lessons I’ve learned interviewing high performers on Life in the Leadership Lane
When the coronavirus arrived in March of 2020, I knew that I needed to shift gears and move to a different lane to stay connected in this world of remote work. The world hit the pause button on corporate relocation as everyone went home to work and try to navigate life through the pandemic. I knew I needed to change my focus and decided to shift my perspective to staying connected, visible, and educated. One of the ways I was able to do this was by starting a podcast. I have always been fascinated by learning people’s stories and how they got to where they are. I learn so much from every single person I talk to… It’s inspiring! Since starting the show started, I have now recorded conversations with more than 50 high performing leaders in the workplace, many serving in the HR community… and has now become part of what I call my “growth day”. Is it a lot of work? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes!
Each time I schedule an interview, it becomes purposeful in the connection and the conversation to learn, to grow, and to share with others. It has become part of my every day and aligns perfectly with my mission; moving leaders to inspire and change the workplace. As I reflect, I have observed that everyone has achieved success in their own way, but there are many common threads for all of these leaders, and thought I would share with you. My hope is that it will encourage you, inspire you, and move you to change lanes, or to keep going!
10 lessons from high performers in the workplace:
They each have a different story about how they achieved success.
They are driven to put in the work.
They have a system – a daily leadership practice they do every day.
They have mentors that have played significant roles in their career.
They understand their purpose.
They are continuous learners.
They understand the importance of building relationships.
They embrace & learn from failure.
They are grateful leaders.
They believe.
Which one of these lessons resonates with you? What would you add to this list? Share with others and start a conversation. It just might inspire you to take action or move you to change lanes and ultimately change the workplace! I look forward to sharing more about this in my upcoming book Life in the leadership Lane; Moving Leaders to Inspire and Change the Workplace.
