Defining Moments

“We all have what I call defining moments. One of those defining moments for me came when I was having a conversation with my wife early in our marriage about our future. We were driving down the highway one afternoon on our way home from visiting our family when my wife asked me if I was planning on finishing college. I had started my journey toward a bachelor’s degree about four years earlier when I decided to leave after my freshman year to get married and start a family. Now, two children later, she was curious if I had been thinking about the future or was just going to accept the current situation with no plan in mind. That was a defining moment for me because I realized that my future was in my control.” This is an excerpt from my book “Find Your Lane”. And I have experienced so many more moments since. Many are life changing!

As I re-read this story approaching the July 4th holiday, I think about so many defining moments that have changed the course of our lives as a couple… jobs, where we live, friends, and many others… including so many other moments in our history that have shaped this great country including our when our forefathers defining moment creating our constitution, and when Abraham Lincoln stood on the hallowed grounds of Gettysburg, and later when our US troops battled in Normandy and Okinawa and on and on… So many powerful moments.

This weekend can be a defining moment for all of us….

  • Do I watch TV or get outside with the family?

  • Do I invest in myself by reading a book, or taking a course?

  • Do I make that call to a friend or family member?

Wishing you and your family a happy 4th holiday weekend and a moment to remember! We have these moments only because of living in this great nation. May we take this weekend to reflect and give thanks to those around us and most importantly above us…

What is your defining moment? I would enjoy hearing your story and how it has shaped you!

Quote of the day… “Life comes down to a few moments. This is one of them.” Bud Fox
