Getting quiet to connect!
My daily routine during the week includes coffee, review my day, journaling, and working out. It also includes quiet time and sending texts to friends in my network each day. This might be the most important part of my day as it quiets my mind and gets me connected to what’s most important in my everyday - people.
During my run this morning, I started reminiscing about the quiet time instilled in our high school football team by coach Snyder. Every Friday night before each game, our high school football coach would turn out the lights before going out to warm up and we would have quiet time. It was a time to clear our minds and visualize how we were going to show up and execute the plays we were going to run … and get our mindset ready for the game. This was impactful, but what was most impactful for me was the quietness of the connections with my teammates. “Hey #14.. foot, You ready? The whispering voice came from #25 Reese. I said yea, I’m ready. You ready? Yea, I’m ready… then I’d hear him giggle. I remember about how he would lay quietly and whisper something about the OU game, or Dallas Cowboys… or something on his mind and then he would call out other player names and say, you ready #12? How about you #61? Then he would giggle… The best part was when he would whisper , “I love all you guys, green pride forever”. I think it was his way of clearing his mind and getting ready by connecting with his team, his friends…
As I think about this time, I think about how this time helped influence me to connect with others during my quiet time each morning to let them know that I’m thinking about them. So thankful for our coach showing us the importance of quiet time and for the guys in that locker room that showed me how it was more than a game… it was community. … and it’s so fulfilling to know we can continue quiet time in a purposeful way …in our everyday!
How do you spend your quiet time? Do you have a daily practice to help you connect with others? How about connecting with your work, or just the day? It’s a great way to drive your days with purpose and make the most of your journey!
