A Briefcase Full Of Gold

“Move to Inspire” 245 words | 2 minutes

Recently my lock broke on my briefcase and couldn’t open it. It was a gift my wife gave me when I graduated from college back in the 90’s to equip me for the business world. This week, I popped open the lock and this is what I found.

A case full of notes from wonderful people on my journey… I decided to go through them and read their words. It so much fun, and inspiring to reflect on different seasons of my career.

I’ve made writing notes a practice in my career because I know what it means to receive a note. Some of the notes I write include:

  • Sending a note to a business partner or employee to share appreciation,

  • Sending friends a note of encouragement,

  • Writing someone a LinkedIn Recommendation,

  • Sending podcast guests a signed copy of my book as a gift,

  • Sending postcards to my grandkids when I travel,

  • Posting a book review for an author for encouragement,

  • and more…

There is power in writing and sending a note! If you want to grow your network, if you want to connect on a deeper level, make writing notes a practice. It will be an encouragement like no other – and you’ll receive just as much encouragement when they share their gratitude. So, who are you going to write a note to this week? Block your calendar and ACT – Action Changes Things!

Ask yourself how you want to be remembered, then build your life around that answer.
