The Secret Key Is No Secret - Don’t Quit!

Commitment is the key to success! In my book “Find Your Lane”, I share a story about a gold prospector that decided to quit his quest only to find out that he was 3 feet from gold. Many times, we give up right before the breakthrough. We are so close. During these times, we lean into the why and find out how committed we are to the journey.

In my quiet time this morning, I was reading about these great people, Benjamin Franklin, Christopher Columbus, Orville and Wilbur Wright, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Madame Curie, and Abraham Lincoln and how people discouraged them and told them they were wasting their time. Can you imagine?

I once read that Napolean Hill, Author of Think and Grow Rich once interviewed 500 of the most successful people in the world and found a common thread among them all. What is the secret key? Persistence… they just don’t quit!

There’s a saying, “Everything worthwhile is uphill.” And when I run into challenges, I often think about how great it will be once I get past the hurdle. Many times, it seems like it will never happen, and I can’t seem to make that change or drop that thing holding me back. This is when I lean into stories.

In my new book “Drive With Purpose”, I share inspirational stories of people who overcame every roadblock that stood in the way of their calling. J. K. Rowling, the author of the renowned Harry Potter books, is the perfect example. Before becoming a published author, Rowling was divorced and endured tough times. She could barely afford to feed her baby. When she was shopping out her Harry Potter manuscript, she couldn’t even afford a computer, so she typed out a 90,000-word manuscript each time to mail to publishers. The book was rejected over and over until a CEO’s 8-year-old daughter read it and fell in love with it. Since then, Rowling has become the biggest seller in children’s books and later founded LUMOS, a children’s charity with a mission to end the institutionalization of children in orphans worldwide. We have all read about famous people that have persevered and achieved success… As you can see, they all have roadblocks and detours in life. We all do. But they don’t let challenges stop them. Instead, they keep moving forward, changing lanes, and adjusting the course along the way. This is what we all can do.

What can you do this week to course correct to keep moving forward? I’m making a change too, too! Sometimes it’s just a reset or to refocus, while other times it’s creating a new routine. Just keep going.

Beyond grateful to those who show the way, those who stayed the course, those who encouraged, those who believed, those who inspired, those who give hope, and those who don’t give up. Thank you for not quitting…

“Ask yourself this question: 'Will this matter a year from now?” -Richard Carlson, author of Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

Call to Action: Who would you add to this list of noteables? Maybe there is someone you know today that is thinking about quitting. Share with them and encourage them to keep going!
